June 20th 6.30 p.m. ‘Music from the Time of Sedgwick Park:’ We represent local English music Elgar Piano Quintet composed close to Sedgwick and American Jazz standards all from the Parks’ hayday as a new stately home.


July 3rd 7.30 p.m. Bignor Church: A String program to include music by John Ireland (minuet from the Downland Suite) Mendelssohn (String Octet) and local film composer Paul Lewis with his ‘English Suite’


July 4th 6.30 p.m.  St Andrew’s Church Nuthurst: Professional Choir and Orchestra Bernardi Music Group and the Choir of Our Holy Redeemer Chelsea with James Whitbourn and David  Bevan join the community of Nuthurst to in a program to celebrate the community and the centenary of American composer Samuel Barber with in his ‘Adagio’ on USA Independence day.

March Classic FM CD of the week with Simon Bates will be the 2009 Shipley commission ‘To Notice Such Things’ by Jon Lord with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Jeremy Irons.


April 25th 6.30 p.m. St Mary’s Horsham Parish Church: Jon Lord (former Deep Purple keyboard player) and friends join Bernardi Music Group and the Festival’s Gifted and Talented String Academy to include last year’s Shipley Commission ‘To Notice Such Things,’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Greensleaves.’


May 1st 7.30 p.m. Shipley Church:  Bernardi Music Group perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no.2, Mendelssohn’s String Octet, and Sussex composer Paul Lewis (English Suite with Quintet) Barber’s Adagio together with Ireland’s Minuet from the ‘Downland Suite’ next to the composer’s resting place outside the South porch of the church.


May 3rd 7.30 p.m. The Malden Theatre Windlesham House: The Yehudi Menuhin School and Malcolm Singer with Shipley Arts festival’s Gifted and Talented ‘String Academy:’ World premiere conducted by the composer Malcolm Singer to mirror Branbenburg Concerto no.2 with the String Academy and pupils of the Yehudi Menuhin School.


May 28th 7.30 p.m. New Buildings: hosted by the Earl and Countess of Lytton: World premiere by Judith Weir and a popular viennese program with David Heyes and Sarah Poole.


May 30th 7.30 p.m. St Cuthman’s Coolham: Trio recital with Keith Willis (member of RA and member of staff Yehudi Menuhin School) Nick Allen and Andrew Bernardi to include local composer John Ireland, Frank Bridge and the neglected english composer Dunhill.


June 6th 6.30 p.m.  St John’s Chapel Coolhurst:  Mark Scrase Dickens and community celebrate Opera UK’s ‘A New Night at The Opera’ with leading soloists and ensemble.

2010 Shipley Arts Festival Composition Competition


The 2010 Shipley Arts Festival Composition Competition was a great success attracting 85 entries from 23 countries (Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Eire, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malta, Mexico, Norway, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, UK, USA).
